Like riding a bike: Shelburne BikeFest hops on for another year

Mark the calendar for the return of the wildly popular Shelburne BikeFest on Saturday, May 31. Cruise by the tents in front of the Shelburne Town Offices, across from the Parade Green and the first Farmers Market of the season, between 10am and 1pm and enjoy all BikeFest has to offer.

hroughout the event, there will be free basic bike tune-ups on a first-come, first-served basis. To avoid waiting in line, consider reserving your spot by pre-registering; a maximum of 24 slots will be available. Walk-ins welcome. There will be low-cost helmets for sale; helmet fitting and decorating stations; and information on where to ride, riding safety, and the rules of the road. Two new activities will roll into this year’s event: a Do It Yourself (DIY) Speed Bike Swap and a Kids Learn to Ride for Free.

11-11:30am: Check out the newest event, the DIY Speed Bike Swap! Want to trade, sell or purchase a bike? Bike owners: have your bike on display at our event no later than 11am. Bike buyers/swappers: you’ve got a half hour to find the wheels of your dreams. All transactions are between participants. Bikes may not be left or discarded at this event and must be removed as soon as the event closes.

11:30am-12:30pm: Kids Learn to Ride for Free! Using balance bikes provided by Local Motion, kids can learn to ride a bike in under an hour. Parents are expected to assist their child(ren). Instruction by Local Motion staff ($50 value). Pre-register to reserve your slot.

1-2pm: The event winds up with a Connected Community Creemee Ride. The monitored ride will take you down Route 7 from the town offices to Archie’s Grill for a free creemee. The group will return via the Longmeadow/Farmstead connector trail – a great opportunity to see how footpaths can help connect our communities! No novice children please. Pre-registration preferred.
