Well, the Vermont Legislature adjourned last Saturday but not without leaving us with two significant tax increases.
The 2015 General Fund Budget grew by 5.6 percent over a year ago which means state spending is increasing about twice as fast as revenues.
The Education Fund grew 4.4 percent (to $1.5 billion) while the number of pupils continue to decline. To cover the shortfall the residential education property tax base rate was increased over 4 percent.
Rather than make budget reductions and live within our means, our Shelburne State Representatives, Joan Lenes and Kate Webb, continue to vote for these increases that add to the cost of living in Vermont.
