Participants in Shelburne Community School (SCS) Connecting Youth (CY) Mentoring Program enjoyed an ice cream social, signaling the end to their year in the program, on Tuesday, May 20. Mentors and mentees created stupendous sundaes, then dove into a variety of group games and fun at the SCS playground.
In the SCS CY Mentoring Program, each adult volunteer mentor is paired with a 5-8 grade student. Each pair meets once per week during the school day in the SCS mentoring room. Mentors and mentees spend about 45 minutes each week together chatting, snacking, playing a game (there’s even a foosball table!) or creating a craft. The goal is to develop a meaningful relationship.
The SCS CY Mentoring Program is hoping to expand next year and is in need of more community volunteer mentors. Interested community members are asked to contact Alice Brown, coordinator of the SCS CY Mentoring Program, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 393-1126.
