Joseph wins individual state tennis title
CVU doubles team loses in finale
Kathy Joseph, a Champlain Valley Union High School sophomore, grabbed the Vermont individual state title Saturday, May 24 in Berlin. Joseph avenged her last year’s title loss to St. Johnsbury’s Ayame Yazawa by defeating her 6-1, 6-2 in Saturday’s finale. Joseph only lost four games throughout the three-day tournament. In the doubles final, Jasmina Jusufagic and Anna Wulfson of South Burlington captured the crown with a 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 victory over Champlain Valley sophomores Elyse Killkelley and Isabelle Angstman.
CVU duo loses in state semifinal
The top seeded Champlain Valley boys tennis duo of Ryan Schneiderman and Joe O’Brien were eliminated in the semifinal match 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday by Essex’s Evan Price and Marsh Palin at Leddy Park in Burlington.
Softball team strikes out
Milton defeated Champlain Valley 14-5 in high school softball action on Saturday, May 24. Natalie Gagnon went 3-for-3 with an RBI while Claire Potter went 2-for-3 and also drove in a run.
Baseball team continues to win
Hayden Smith went 2-for-3 to lead CVU over Milton 9-1 in high school baseball Saturday at home. Smith hit a triple and had three RBIs while Rayne Supple also had two hits and three RBIs. Winning pitcher Eric Bergkvist allowed one run and five hits over six innings. Kyle Stanley tripled and Deagan Poland walked three times and scored three runs for the 11-2 Redhawks.
