Lacrosse team finishes strong
The Redhawks won their last three game of the season and secured the No. 1 seed in the state tournament in the process. Elliott Mitchell contributed a hat trick to help Champlain Valley defeat Colchester 13-6 last Tuesday. Steele DuBrul (assist), Griffin DiParlo (assist), Nevin DiParlo, and Ryan Keelan added two goals apiece while Hoyt McCuin contributed a goal and four assists. Gronlund and Owen Hudson made a combined seven saves. After a 13-4 defeat of MMU, Champlain Valley defeated Middlebury 12-11 thanks to Matt Palmer who broke the deadlock with 26 seconds to go in regulation. Palmer finished with two goals, Mitchell scored three goals and had an assist, and Griffin DiParlo scored twice with an assist. Alex Bulla and Dylan Shaefer each scored twice and Keelan added a goal and an assist. Zander Miller and Chris Gronlund combined for six saves.

CVU secures No. 2 seed entering state tournament
Champlain Valley turned a 3-1 deficit into a 12-6 win over Essex last Tuesday thanks to Erik Bergkvist, Rayne Supple, and Hayden Smith who each drove in two runs apiece. Will Potter scored two runs and Supple was the winning pitcher. Two days later the Redhawks defeated North Country 6-5 in extra innings. Potter and Supple went 2-for-5 and Kyle Stanley stole home in the seventh inning to give CVU the lead. BFA-St Albans grabbed the Metro Division high school baseball crown and the No. 1 seed after they turned their 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 win over Champlain Valley on Saturday afternoon. Supple allowed no hits, struck out nine, and walked four in 6 2/3 innings. Smith went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Deagan Poland also had three hits.

Softball completes regular season with one win
The CVU softball team completed its regular season with a 1-15 record. In the Division I high school state tournament playdown yesterday, top-seeded Essex was defeating the Redhawks 8-0 when play was suspended. The game will resume after press time on Wednesday.

Golf team enters state championships
Individual golfers who qualified for states include Champlain Valley Union’s Peter Scrimegour, 37, Carter Knox, 40, Ryan Grabone Akey, 44, Patrick Pattison, 40, and Will Ryan, 41. The team will play state championship rounds at the Country Club of Vermont on Wednesday, June 4 after press time.

Girls tennis teams advances
The CVU girls tennis team defeated Burlington 5-2 in the quarterfinal game to advance to the Div. 1 finale at South Burlington after press time on Wednesday. The results are as follows: Singles: Kathy Joseph, C, def. Annie Reville, B, 6-0, 6-0; Katie Costello, B, def. Leah Epstein, C, 6-3, 6-0; Mackenzie Buckman, C, def.
