SHS marks 50th anniversary for final graduating class

June 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the last graduating class of Shelburne High School (SHS). To celebrate the occasion, the 50th anniversary Class of 1964 is organizing an all classes SHS reunion on July 18 and 19. All former SHS students, their grade school classmates, families, friends, and teachers are encouraged to attend.

On Friday, July 18, register and tour the former school, which now houses the Town of Shelburne Municipal Offices in Shelburne Village. A buffet dinner will be held Saturday at 5pm in the Town of Shelburne Municipal Offices, followed by festivities in the gymnasium of the old high school. Daytime activities for Saturday are in the planning process.

Members of the SHS Class of 1964 were Cynthia Barr, David Bovat, Pauline Coleman, William Cox, Wendy Durrell (Warren), Lawrence Gaudette, James George, Roberta (“Bobbie”) Hammond, Brian Hoyt, Patricia Jarvis, Maitland (“Sandy”) LaForce, Joanne Martin (Bessette), Barbara J. Scribner, Linda Sharrow (Smith), Ethel Spear (Brousseau), Carole Viens (LaVigne), and Roderick Wilce.

In 1964, William H. Timbers was SHS principal and the faculty included Thomas Jones, Mary Morrisseau, Bernard (“Bernie”) Couture, Mareli McGee, Howard Vuley, Imelda McDonald, and Robert “Bob” Jones, with Betty Nowocienski directing the Glee Club.
