Over 250 contest entrants of all ages from the U.S., Canada, and abroad have entered the quilt contest at Vermont Quilt Festival, New England’s premier quilt event this weekend. They include Shelburne residents Hope Johnson, Judy M. Siccama, and Ruth Whitaker. Olivia Brunelle and Lauren Toussaint of Shelburne are entrants in the youth category.
Evaluated by a panel of national quilt judges, the winners of the competition were announced on Thursday evening, June 26, during the Awards Ceremony at the Champagne and Chocolate Preview.
The Festival, now in its 38th year, takes place June 27 through June 29 at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction. The contest quilts are on display throughout the three-day weekend. Several other exhibits of antique and new quilts, classes, lectures, appraisals, free gallery talks, vendor demonstrations, and a bustling merchants mall add to the excitement. Show hours are Friday and Saturday 9am to 6pm; Sunday 9am to 3pm. Daily admission is $12, children under 14 free. The appraisal service for antique quilts is available Saturday 9am to 5pm; the fee is $45 per quilt. Registration for classes takes place online.
