When Val talks, Shelburne listens

Longtime Food Shelf Director Val Martel placed a call to the Shelburne News a week ago with a plea to townspeople for funds to help residents in need this summer. “I just got off the phone with a social worker that is working with three Shelburne families,” Martel explained. “Unfortunately the need is for cash, not just non-perishable food items, and the food shelf account is dangerously low. I really dislike making another plea for money but when I think about the kids…I know it’s the right thing to do. I want the citizens of Shelburne to know there is a serious need.”

In the past, the community has come through with donations to help their neighbors in a big way. And Martel is hopeful, as always, that private donations from the community will help these families in need. “The food shelf is grateful for any size contribution,” she offered. “No amount is too small.”

Those in a position to offer assistance are asked to send a check, made out to the Shelburne Food Shelf, and mailed to the Town Clerk’s office, PO Box 88, Shelburne, VT 05482. Please write the words “food shelf” in the memo section of the check.
