Redhawks outlast Hornets to remain perfect
With one goal and two assists Lia Gagliuso led the Champlain Valley Union girls soccer over Colchester 4-0 last Wednesday, Oct. 8. Audrey Allegretta, Sierra Morton, and Megan Gannon also scored. Maddie Turnau and Michaela Flore combined for three saves. On Saturday Allegretta scored the game-winner off a corner kick by Gagliuso to beat Essex 2-1. Essex scored one minute into the game but a tally by Morton tied the game at one in the first half. Turnau made six saves to earn the win for the undefeated Redhawks.
Essex blanks CVU after Colchester win
Max Brown scored both goals last Tuesday, Oct. 7 to lead Champlain Valley over Colchester 2-0. Ollie Choiniere had a helper and Oscar Kelley made five saves to secure the shutout. It may have taken five years, but Hornet Nate Miles scored a goal and stung the Redhawks 1-0 in a high school boys soccer Friday afternoon. Kelley made five saves during the losing effort.
After win over Lakers Redhawks fall to Rebels
CVU senior Kate Burke scored two goals and had one assist to lead the field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Colchester last Wednesday. Lily Schmoker and Kate Machavern added a goal apiece for the Redhawks. Unfortunately CVU was unable to use the momentum against South Burlington on Friday afternoon. The Rebels scored twice to beat the visiting Redhawks 2-0. Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made four saves in the shutout.
CVU is perfect in girls volleyball
The CVU girls’ volleyball team maintains its unbeaten record with a 3-0 home win over Rice on Tuesday followed by a hard fought 3-1 victory over Essex in front of a standing room only homecoming crowd at Essex High School Friday night. The team holds a 7-0 record with three home matches against Vermont Commons, Lyndon Institute, and Burlington High School to round out the regular season.
