CVU students compete at Scholar’s Bowl tournament Dec. 5

The Vermont-NEA Scholars’ Bowl will host a Pre-Holiday Academic Tournament, a high school academic competition at South Burlington High School on Friday, Dec. 5 from 4:15-8:30 pm. Established in 2007, this tournament is one of the largest high school quiz bowl events in the northeast. Last year 52 teams from 21 schools participated, and this year the competition is expected to surpass both numbers, with 65 teams from 24 schools competing.

While many of the participating schools are from the Burlington area, including Champlain Valley Union, the Scholars Bowl is expecting teams from leagues in New York, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Because this is the only opportunity, many of these schools have to face opponents from beyond their local area. This event is a friendly but competitive meeting of the minds.
