Redhawks win Beech Tourney’s consolation game

Rice defeated Champlain Valley 2-1 in the opening round of the Beech Tournament at Leddy Park on Thursday, Dec. 11. Elliott Mitchell netted the equalizer for the Redhawks with assists from Tyler Brooks and Owen McCuin in the first period. Greg Talbert and Ty Parker combined for 16 saves in the loss. The Redhawks redeemed themselves with a 3-0 win over Colchester in the Beech Tournament consolation game on Friday. Jack Locker, Tyler Bodette, and Mitchell scored once apiece for the Redhawks, while Kaleb Godbout dished out three assists, and Talbert stopped 15 shots.

Rice cooks Redhawks

The Green Knights prevailed over Champlain Valley 81-48 in high school boys basketball action on Thursday, Dec. 11. Chris Reiss scored 15 points to lead the Redhawks.

Redhawks remain perfect

The Champlain Valley Union girls basketball team cruised by Mount Abraham 53-19 in a matchup of the D-I and D-II reigning state champions on Friday, Dec. 12. Laurel Jaunich grabbed 24 points, Lia Gagliuso added nine points, and Sadie Otley contributed six points, eight steals, and four assists for the 3-0 Redhawks.

CVU, Rice runners excel at indoor track meet

CVU sophomore Sierra Morton won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.5 seconds on Saturday, Dec. 13 at UVM. Other winners included: 300: Riley Mitiguy, Rice 45.0. 600: Mitiguy, Rice 1:49.3. 4×200: CVU 1:58.7
