Wrestlers excel at difficult 2-day meet

CVU wrestlers Kienan Kittredge, Jacob Griggs, and Jarett Legg took third, fourth, and fifth place respectively at the Michael J. Baker Classic tournament in Essex on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16-17. Only five Vermont wrestlers made up the 30-wrestler finals bracket and only one in-state wrestler took the top honors.

Hornets stick Redhawks

The undefeated Essex Hornets dealt the Redhawks a 2-1 loss in high school boys ice hockey action on Saturday, Jan. 17 in South Burlington. CVU’s Kaleb Godbout scored in the first period and Greg Talbert made 22 saves.

Girls continue winning streak

CVU’s Laurel Jaunich was on fire during the girls basketball game against Burlington on Saturday, Jan. 17. She scored 16 second-half points on 8 of 8 shooting to lead the Redhawks over the Seahorses 48-39 win at Buck Hard Gym. She finished with 22 points and seven blocks. Sadie Otley contributed 12 points (six assists) for CVU.

CVU gymnast team loses to Essex

The Redhawks gymnastic team gave it their all but came up short to Essex on Friday, Jan. 16 at Green Mountain Gymnastics in Williston. The results from the meet are as follows: Vault: T-3. Julia Higa, 8.5. Beam: T-3. Sarah Kinsley 8.8.

Track meet garners event winner

Richard Tegatz won the weight throw with a 37-2.5 toss at the high school indoor track meet on Jan. 11 at UVM.

Redhawks struggles continue

Spaulding bested Champlain Valley 76-71 in high school boys basketball last Friday night. CVU’s Chris Reiss contributed 26 points. Walker Storey scored 14 and Drew Fisher pitched in with 12.
