Lady Redhawks make history
Laurel Jaunich delivered a double-double (20 points and 10 rebounds) while CVU tied the D-I girls basketball record set in the 1990s by Essex (62 wins) after beating Spaulding 67-28 on Thursday, Jan. 29. Sadie Otley grabbed 15 points and eight assists and Annabella Pugliese contributed six points and 12 rebounds for the Redhawks. On Saturday the girls made history when they defeated Mount Anthony 57-49 to secure their 63rd consecutive victory. During the game Jaunich scored 25 points and had nine rebounds while Otley contributed 16 points, six assists, and four steals for the 16-0 Redhawks. CVU narrowly defeated Essex 43-37 in overtime on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at home. Jaunich pumped in 16 points, six rebounds, four steals, and four assists while Otley contributed 10 points and Pugliese scored six and had eight rebounds.
Hornets sting Redhawks
CVU’s Jed Morris contributed 11 points to help lead the Redhawks over Colchester 47-34 on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Rayne Supple tossed in eight points to secure the win. Essex tweaked out a 57-56 victory over the Redhawks at home on Feb. 3. Walker Storey scored 13 points while Chris Reiss and Josh Bliss both scored 11 apiece.
Hockey team wins two in a row
Champlain Valley’s Oscar Kelly had a goal and an assist to help lead the Redhawks 3-0 over Rutland in boys ice hockey action on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Joe Parento and Matt Palmer scored one apiece and Greg Talbert stopped 21 shots. On Saturday, Champlain Valley beat BFA-St. Albans 2-1 with help from Dylan Schaefer and Kaleb Godbout who scored one apiece. Talbert made 18 saves for the Redhawks.
