Girls hoops team continues winning streak, hits 66 consecutive wins
Champlain Valley grabbed a 57-43 win over Mount Anthony 43 last Friday, Feb. 6. Sadie Otley pumped in 20 points, had eight rebounds, and four steals, while Annabella Pugliese scored 12 points and Laurel Jaunich added 11 for the perfect Redhawks. CVU defeated Burlington 54-32 with Pugliese leading the charge with 18 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, four steals, and three assists on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at home. Jaunich added eight points during the Redhawks 66th consecutive win.
Boys hoops team rebounds from recent loss
The Seahorses outpaced the Redhawks 65-50 in high school boys basketball action on Friday, Feb. 6. CVU’s Chris Reiss contributed 18 points but Burlington’s Asko Mostarlic tossed in 26 points, including five 3-pointers, for the win. Champlain Valley rebounded from its recent loss by defeating Spaulding 55-50 at home on Monday, Jan. 9. CVU’s Rayne Supple had a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) and Reiss tossed in 12 points.
Nordic girls place fourth, boys first
The CVU boys Nordic team finished first and the girls placed fourth during a high school Nordic ski meet on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Sleepy Hollow. The Top 10 finishes were as follows: Girls Top 10: 10. Meara Heininger. Boys Top 10: 2. Harken Spillane; 5. Burke Spillane; 7. Tyler Marshall; 10. Jonathan Buzzell.
Redhawks dominate on ice
Champlain Valley defeated Rice 4-1 in boys high school ice hockey action last Wednesday in South Burlington. Matt Palmer and Owen McCuin scored a goal and had an assist apiece and Tyler Brooks and Colin Lach also scored. Oscar Kelly picked up two assists while Greg Talbert made 23 saves for the Redhawks. On Saturday, Feb. 7 Brooks scored the game winner with two minutes left in regulation to beat North Country 1-0. Ty Parker made seven saves to secure the win.
