On Friday, Feb. 13 at Shelburne Town Center Christopher Sabick, Archaeological Director of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, will present a program that reveals the deep, watery secrets of Shelburne Bay. The event, sponsored by the Shelburne Historical Society, begins at 6:30pm and is open to the public. There will be a brief meeting before the presentation to elect officers to the recently revived historical society.
Sabick will discuss “Steamboat Graveyard,” and the many wrecks that lie on the bottom of the bay, wrecks that will be studied and documented in this summer by graduate students from across the country. The presentation will center on the history of this area in relation to shipbuilding and ship repairs as well as the techniques and equipment that the students will use during their research this summer.
A member of the staff of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum since 1998, Sabick was appointed Director of Conservation in 2000 and has been in charge of the Maritime Research Institute since 2013. Don’t miss this incredibly opportunity to dive into local history.
