Registration for the Shelburne lacrosse program through Shelburne Parks & Rec has begun. The program is open to players in kindergarten through eighth grade. There is a co-ed program for kindergartners only, and also a co-ed program for first and second graders. Starting in third grade, the program splits into girls and boys teams, and the teams play games against teams from different towns, traveling to Middlebury, St. Albans, Stowe, and other Vermont towns. Also beginning at the 3/4 level, the girls play with a different stick than the boys, and the girls and boys play a different game of lacrosse–each with different rules, different markings on the field and different equipment.

Why have more than 250 Shelburne kids gotten hooked on this fast-paced sport? And why is lacrosse the fastest growing sport in the country? Because it’s fun and fast paced. Often called “the fastest sport on two feet,” lacrosse has taken hold in our community, and continues to draw more children to it in Vermont as additional playing opportunities keep cropping up in the region.

The registration deadline for grades 3-8 is Thursday, March 12. The deadline for grades K-2 is Friday, April 10. An opening night event will be held for all players on Saturday, March 21 from 7-8:30pm at the Field House. Pre-season indoor practices begin the week of March 23 for grades 3-8. The K-2 program kicks off the week of April 27, following school break.
