Registration is now open for the 70th annual Town Officers’ Educational Conferences, planned for three locations in April.
Organized by University of Vermont Extension in cooperation with partnering agencies, these day-long meetings will provide an opportunity for town clerks, listers, selectboard members, planners, and other municipal officials and citizen volunteers to gather for updates on municipal issues and changes to tax laws. They also will participate in workshops and learn what’s new including more about the Universal Recycling Law and the voter checklist and election management system that will go into effect this summer.
On-site registration will begin at 8am. Workshop sessions will run from 8:30am to 4pm with a break for lunch with keynote speaker, Secretary of State Jim Condos, who will discuss Vermont’s open meeting law.
Conferences are planned for the following locations:
April 1: DoubleTree Burlington, 1117 Williston Rd., South Burlington; April 22: Lake Morey Inn, 1 Clubhouse Rd., Fairlee; and April 29: Grand Hotel Killington, 228 East Mountain Rd., Killington.
Workshops will focus on a diverse range of topics including effective meeting planning, responding to requests for public records, natural resource planning and inventories, wastewater systems, land grading for property valuation, stormwater management, and the proposed statewide parcel data program, among others. In addition, an open forum will be offered for town clerks, listers and other municipal officials to discuss job-related issues and concerns.
The $65 registration fee covers the continental breakfast, lunch, and choice of four concurrent workshop sessions. The deadline to register is two days prior to the meeting.
