Many thanks from the Shelburne Food Shelf

I am writing to thank the town and people of Shelburne for the incredible support they have given to the Shelburne Food Shelf over the past year. The town graciously ceded some additional space for food storage which will make it much easier to have the food on hand that the people we serve depend upon. This is in addition to all the support that the town and its employees have provided over 2015.

We are constantly amazed by the generosity of the people of Shelburne. It is rare that one of us enters the Shelburne Food Shelf and does not find bags and boxes of donated food awaiting distribution. Our customers tell us that the food the citizens of Shelburne provide is the best in Chittenden County. It is heartwarming to know that you all care about all of your neighbors and are helping us tackle the problem of food insecurity.

We have made, and are continuing to make, changes that expand access to our Shelburne neighbors. The people we serve can now shop in the Shelburne Food Shelf, choosing the foods that will work best for them and their families. For the first time ever, we opened evening hours last week and we will do the same in January. This December, we served 35 households. This represents a total of 76 people, of which 9 were seniors and 36 children. In February, we anticipate big changes as we will be open four times a month and welcoming people to shop twice a month. In February we will also be starting our fresh foods initiative. We will, for the first time, offer items such as bread, eggs, meats, cheese, vegetables and milk.

As we move through the holidays, we hope you will continue to support us with donations. We now have a Facebook page ( that lists the items we need to restock our shelves. We also hope you will consider a cash donation to support our fresh food initiative. You can find information about how to donate on our face book page as well.

Thank you again and have a wonderful holiday season.

Christie Allen, Secretary, Shelburne Food Shelf Board of Directors
