I would like to announce that I am running for a seat on the Shelburne Selectboard. As a wildlife veterinarian who worked for the US Department of the Interior for over 30 years, I understand how governance with public input works. Conversations with friends and neighbors have convinced me that there are issues facing the town that could benefit from my expertise and approach, especially with regard to conservation and land use.
I currently serve on the Natural Resources and Conservation Committee. Through this work, I have attended and contributed to Planning Commission, DRB and Selectboard meetings. These have introduced me to how town policies and decisions are made and motivated me to become more involved in the process. Before we purchased property in Shelburne four years ago, I served as a member of the Planning Commission and was chair of the Comprehensive Planning Steering Committee for a small town in Wisconsin. The issues I encountered there are similar to those in Shelburne, and that experience will help me analyze and compare possible solutions here.
I believe I have a lot to bring to the Selectboard’s work. My skills, my experience and my collaborative, thoughtful perspective, one which is respectful of, but not limited by, past history or past decisions.
I want to hear your thoughts and concerns about the most important issues facing Shelburne and hope to talk with many Shelburne voters in person before (and after) the March election. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Josh Dein, Shelburne
