Two of Addison County’s service oriented non-profits recently announced a collaboration to provide short-term care for pets whose owners are facing a health crisis. Homeward Bound’s Pets in Crisis program is set up to provide a safe haven and temporary shelter for the pets of victims of domestic violence or natural disaster. Through their new partnership with Addison County Home Health and Hospice, the humane society will be extending the program to those facing medical emergencies.

Homeward Bound’s Executive Director, Jessica Danyow, says “We are excited for this partnership. In many respects, our agencies serve a shared client-base and this collaboration will enable each of us to provide a more comprehensive level of service to our constituents.”

Addison County Home Health and Hospice’s Executive Director Sherry Greifzu, says “We are thrilled to be in partnership with Homeward Bound. Their assistance will provide peace of mind to our patients when they need help with their pets during health emergencies. They can then focus their energy on getting better, rather than worrying about whether their pets are well cared for.”

For the past 40 years, Homeward Bound has worked to foster the humane treatment of animals in our community. They provide temporary shelter for more than 700 lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered animals each year. As the only animal shelter in our county, the programs and services meet a wide array of critical animal welfare needs and we provide them without any county, state or federal funding. In addition to placing animals with new families, they educate the community about issues important to the welfare of animals, coordinate a feral cat spay/neuter program throughout the county, provide assistance to low-income pet owners, and assist law enforcement with animal cruelty and neglect investigations.
