The Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department was honored for its 75th year of service on May 6 in the Vermont House of Representatives in Montpelier.
The ceremony included a reading of a resolution sponsored by Representatives Kate Webb and Joan Lenes and Senators Ginny Lyons, Michael Sirotkin, Philip Baruth, Tim Ashe, David Zuckerman, and Diane Snelling.
The fire department provides fire suppression, heavy rescue, marine rescue, hazardous material control and fire prevention and education services. “Finding time to train and volunteer has become more challenging in the 21st century, and yet these people do so making our communities work,” said Webb. “They are our true local heroes.”
On hand, and receiving a standing ovation, were Chief Jerry Ouimet, along with firefighters Dana Baker, former Fire Chief Craig Wooster, Jim Branagan, Dan Haupt, Lee Krohn, Tom Tompkins, Cullen Homer Bullard, and Jim Buell, who was there in spirit. Firefighter Bullard has been on the force since 1967.
