SCHIP Summer grants announced

SCHIP (Shelburne, Charlotte, Hinesburg Interfaith Projects) announced its summer grant awards, awarding $20,800 to nonprofits in the three towns who met the criteria of serving the people of our communities in a variety of ways. Since the first grants were given in April 2005, $596,000 has been distributed.

The awards are possible through SCHIP’s mission to raise funds through the sale of donated, gently used clothing and household items, accessories, art, and collectibles at SCHIP’s Treasure Resale Shop at 5404 Shelburne Road in Shelburne Village next to the town offices.

Grants in the current summer cycle were awarded to the following organizations:

Champlain Valley Hawks Wrestling Program
Connecting Youth in CCSU
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity
Hinesburg Community Resource Center
Hinesburg Trails Committee
Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP)
Kayla’s Directory
Shelburne Craft School
Shelburne Food Shelf
St. George Historic and Conservation Trust
Stern Center for Language and Learning
Young Life

In addition to the above, grants were given to local faith communities in Charlotte and Hinesburg.

The deadline for the next round of grant applications is September 30, 2016.  The maximum grant size is $3,000. Application forms are available be emailing

Our participating faith communities include: All Souls Interfaith Gathering, Charlotte Congregational Church, Hinesburg United Church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Shelburne United Methodist Church, St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Vermont Zen Center.
