Brandon Hill was driving his U.S. Express Enterprise tractor-trailer south on Shelburne Road on Saturday evening at about 7pm when, according to a Shelburne police report, he missed the business he was looking for and decided to head down Bay Road and loop back to U.S. Route 7. However, Hill missed several signs that warned of the 11-foot clearance and a stop sign and proceeded to get stuck under the bridge. The force of the accident peeled off the top of the truck and forced traffic to be re-routed for over four and a half hours while crews worked to free the truck. Vermont Railway officials inspected the bridge the next morning and deemed the 105-year-old bridge OK for train traffic to resume. According to Shelburne police, the driver received several citations.
