Vermont landscape in oils: David Smith exhibit at Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery

Peacham artist David Smith will open an exhibition of his oil paintings at Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery July 21 with a public reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit runs through Sept. 9.

“Mist” by David Smith

Smith is an award-winning painter who focuses on the Vermont landscape. Reviewer Marc Awodey wrote that Smith’s work was “some of the best contemporary landscapes” and “even though his paintings are generally small, he has a perfect grasp of scale.”

Smith remarked on his intense observations that comes across on his canvas.

“A walk through evergreen woods searching for a lost dog, and I couldn’t help being distracted by the quality of light. Spring evenings spent hovering over constellations of forget-me-nots and entering into their scale. Explosions of apple blossoms, like clouds anchored in the fields.”
