Shelburne recently hosted a group of European representatives as part of a program offered by the Vermont Council on World Affairs and the U.S. Department of State. The leaders represented the countries of Bosnia, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Romania. They met July 28 with local officials to discuss Shelburne’s tradition of student participation on its government commissions, boards, and committees, with an interest in learning about involving students in local government.
In Shelburne, Champlain Valley Union High School junior Kyle Bergeron was a student CBC member before being appointed as a full voting member of the Natural Resources & Conservation Commission. University of Vermont sophomore Alex von Stange was also a student CBC member before being officially appointed to the Development Review Board. Both Bergeron and von Stange attended the meeting with the European delegation, along with Town Manager Joe Colangelo.
