Eileen Marie Markey

Eileen Marie Markey of Edmond, Okla., was born April 18, 1940 in Lawrence, Mass., to Rodosildo and Helen DeBurro. She passed away Sept. 9, surrounded by her loving family. Eileen married John J. Markey on Sept. 16, 1961 in North Andover, Mass.

Following her graduation from North Andover High School, Eileen went to work for Raytheon Corp. as one of their first 100 employees. She, her husband John, and their sons moved around the country to follow John’s career in the FBI. She has the distinction of being the only spouse of an FBI agent who has received letters of commendation from the Director of the FBI and the Attorney General of the United States for help she provided during a major organized crime case.

In 1978 they moved to Shelburne, where she retired from the Pierson Library in 1997. She had a passion for traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family at the beach in New England every summer. More than anything, she loved her role as “Grammy” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband John, also of Edmond, and sons Kevin Markey and wife Dena, of Edmond; Jay Markey and wife Kerry of Chelmsford, Mass.; grandchildren Sarah Golay and husband Steven of Edmond, Kristen Campbell and husband Ben of Oklahoma City, Katie Markey, Joe Markey, and Claire Markey of Chelmsford, Mass.; great-grandchildren Blakely Golay and Benson Campbell; two sisters, Sandra Viens of Methuen, Mass., and Virginia Morris and her husband William, of Marco Island, Fla. She leaves behind many friends from all of the places they lived and from their travels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Stephenson Cancer Center, 800 NE 10th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104. The family would like to thank Dr. Kathleen Moore and all of the staff at the Stephenson Cancer Center for their compassionate care they have provided.

Private family services will be held.
