Three-car crash closes I-189 Tuesday morning

Two drivers needed to be checked for injuries after a three-vehicle pileup that shut down Interstate 189 for more than an hour Tuesday morning.

A 1999 Volvo dump truck driven by William Boisvine, 75, of Shelburne and loaded with gravel was headed west on the highway when it struck the rear of a 2010 Subaru Forester driven by Aaron Mason, 32, of Essex Junction, pushing it into the rear of a 2008 Honda Odyssey driven by Charles Pizer, 61, of South Burlington.

Mason and Pizer were taken to the UVM Medical Center as a precaution.

Police said the Subaru was demolished, the Honda had heavy damage and the dump truck had minor front-end damage.

Police said the accident happened at 8:21 a.m. near Farrell Street.

Vermont State Police, Williston police, and South Burlington police, fire and rescue all assisted at the crash.

The crash is still being investigated and any witnesses are asked to call the Williston state police office at 802-878-7111.
