Continuing a nearly 30-year theatrical tradition, the Alpha team at Shelburne Community School presents the musical “Tumbleweeds” with performances tonight and Friday.

The students in grades 6-8 have been working hard to present the show written by Tim Kelly and based on an old comic strip by Tom K. Ryan.

Tumbleweeds takes place in a fictional old western town called Grimy Gulch. Conflict and debauchery ensues as the Poohawks (Caitlin Buley and Harper Danforth), Snake-Eye McFoul (Max Brumsted) and Throck Mortina (Stella Ewald) try to cash in, Hildegard (Emma Sterling) continues her search for a husband, and the Choo Choo Railway decides to build a track through Grimy Gulch while Tumbleweeds tries to save the town.

Student directors Mira Filion, Gabrielle Witt, and Erik Jensen think audiences will enjoy seeing what happens when the Poohawks double-cross Tumbleweeds (Angelos Carroll).

Performances are tonight and Friday at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Admission: $5 per person or $4 with a canned food item to benefit the Shelburne Food Shelf.
