Shelburne man arrested for DUI after crashing into signs

A Shelburne man was arrested for drunk driving early on New Year’s Day after hitting several street signs and crashing his vehicle near IDX Drive on Shelburne Road, South Burlington Police said.

At approximately 3:25 a.m. Monday, police responded to a report of a one-vehicle crash on Shelburne Road. The driver, Giobertty Gutierrez, 23, of Shelburne, had struck several street signs with his SUV, police said.
The police news release did not mention how many and what type of signs were hit.

A preliminary breath test indicated that Gutierrez had a blood-alcohol level of .21 percent, according to police. A Vermont driver is considered impaired at a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent.

Gutierrez was charged with driving under the influence and released with a citation to appear in court on Jan. 18, police said.
