After serving as a school board member for the last 26 years, I have chosen to not seek re-election. It has been an honor, privilege and pleasure and I have learned more than I could have imagined from my involvement. The role of a school board member is to develop policy and hire a skilled and competent superintendent. Through that simple description, so much more takes place.
Along with other school board members, I have worked with a handful of superintendents, several principals and administrators, and many teachers. I served and have been engaged for so long because of the common thread – our students and their learning.
Education and what we can offer to and for our students is one of the most important things in their lives. We are helping our learners become informed and involved citizens of the future. We have a responsibility that comes with educating our youth and I believe the Champlain Valley School District community navigates this complex journey well.
You, the voters, have said yes to consolidation. Not only do I believe this to be a financial benefit, more importantly, it will benefit student learning and outcomes. A long time ago, I felt this to be true and I am proud to have played a part in cultivating its creation in our community. I have participated and now it is time for others to do the same.
Again, let me thank you for the privilege of participating as a school board member over the past three decades!
