Police stop Shelburne Road driver traveling over 70 mph

Shelburne Police keeping an eye on Shelburne Road traffic last week spotted one vehicle traveling nearly twice the 40 mph speed limit.

Brendan Fillion, 24, of Shelburne, was driving southbound near Winter Haven Road around 7 p.m. on March 21 when police clocked his 2016 Nissan Altima at 76 mph, according to a police news release.

The speed limit is 40 mph in that stretch north of Shelburne Village near the former Yankee Doodle Motel.

Police took Fillion into custody. He was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, on April 10 to answer to the charges of driving under the influence and negligent operation, police said.
