Marilyn was born on June 5, 1937 in the Bronx, New York. Her parents, Patrick J. and Anna E. (née Cleary) Walsh immigrated separately from County Clare, Ireland, in 1920 and 1921. Marilyn grew up blocks from Yankee Stadium and became a lifelong baseball fan. Throughout her life, she avidly read newspapers and books, reflecting her tenacious curiosity about the world.
In 1962, Marilyn married Robert Heilferty, and the couple raised three sons, living in Rockland County, New York, and Burlington County, New Jersey. They retired to Charlotte, Vt., in 1992 where they enjoyed many wonderful years. Bob passed away in 2005, and Marilyn subsequently moved to Shelburne, spending years filled with dear friendships, avid knitting, reading, and keeping up with current events.
Marilyn will be loved and missed by surviving sons, Robert (Marianne) of Falls Church, Va., John (Catherine) of Yardley, Pa., and Michael of Manhattan, New York City; in addition to six grandchildren: Brian (fiancé Nikki), Conor, Sean, Carrick, Anna, and Lydia, as well as many dear relatives and friends.
In accordance with Marilyn’s wishes, burial will be private.
