Mater Christi School has announced that it is expanding to create second kindergarten and fourth-grade classes and is in the process of hiring two new teachers. The classes will number approximately 12 students each, according to a school announcement.
The decision comes as part of the school’s strategic plan developed by parents, board members and staff to position the school for the next decade. The effort is led by Head of School and President Tim Loescher, of Burlington. Other priorities of the plan are strengthening the math curriculum, emphasizing an accelerated French-language program and English grammar, and integrating technology. Plans are also under way to expand tuition assistance for families.
Mater Christi School is sponsored by the Mercy Education System of the Americas, a global Catholic organization that emphasizes awareness and activism around issues pertaining to immigration, non-violence, battling racism, protecting the environment and supporting women. Currently, about half of the school’s enrollment is Catholic, according to school officials.
Students attend primarily from Chittenden County communities.
