Donations to the library project will help curb tax increase — Marilyn W. Neagley

To the Editor:

Thanks to the thoughtful generosity of an anonymous donor and Friends of the Pierson Library, there’s a chance to quadruple all donations for the new Pierson Library and renovated historic Town Hall.

Gifts of all sizes can help reduce the amount that taxpayers will have to pay toward the approved bond and Shelburne will have a new library and community center where all can learn and enjoy the many offerings.

Already, those who do not have home computers have access to the internet at Pierson Library. Civic groups meet in the conference room and toddlers enjoy story time. The joy of reading is encouraged, and is needed now more than ever. But demand is outgrowing the space.

I have personally benefitted by taking my grandchildren to science workshops and story time. And as a person who is downsizing, I very much appreciate borrowing rather than accumulating books.

People of all ages and backgrounds benefit from having a vibrant library. Please consider giving. Your gift will be quadrupled. Taxes will be lowered. The community will be enriched.
