Asking someone to care for ailing Shelburne Road trees

To the Editor:

Has anyone else noticed that the trees that were planted in the medians and along Shelburne road many many years ago are either dead, half dead, or look like scruffy bushes?

They basically got put in the ground and no one has touched them for a decade. If these trees were taken care of in even a basic fashion, they could bring a lot of pride and character to both Shelburne and South Burlington. They might even bring more business in because it would say we care about our surroundings, come shop with us.

I have contacted the highway department for the last three or four years but nothing has been done.

I am hoping that someone reads my letter and can somehow get through to someone to care for the trees. It wouldn’t take that much time, probably a day or two. Cut the dead trees down and prune all the rest, especially the low branches so they can grow upright. Maybe even dig around them and put mulch so they look great and the crabgrass isn’t taking over.

Thanks to whoever has some influence because this would be great for everyone.
