Car crashes into Spear Street home

A Shelburne man sustained minor injuries in a one-car crash into a brick home at the intersection of Barstow Road and Spear Street recently, according to Shelburne Police.

The incident happened on Aug. 24 at approximately 11:22 p.m. Shelburne Police, Fire, and Rescue crews were called to the scene and found a 2018 white Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed into the two-story house.

First responders were able to help the driver out of the car. David Gladstone, 66, of Shelburne, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said. He was transported to UVM Medical Center by Shelburne Rescue for apparent minor injuries, police added.

It appeared that the vehicle had been travelling westbound on Barstow Road when it failed to stop at the Spear Street intersection and struck the house, police explained.

According to the police statement, the Jeep was a total loss. The residence sustained significant damage, but no one inside the home was hurt. Police said that alcohol was not a factor in this accident and they are still investigating.
