To the Editor:
At the Sept. 4 meeting of the Shelburne Selectboard, I had the honor of being appointed to the Shelburne Village Dog Park Committee. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board for the appointment, and also salute the Dog Park Committee for all their hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm that has provided such a fine location for dogs (and dog owners) to socialize and exercise.
I have been involved with the dog park from its earliest envisioning, almost 12 years ago, when Fred Tiballi’s offer of a gift of land for a town dog park coincided with Bob Bick’s suggestion, published in the Shelburne News, that interested dog owners should meet to discuss the need for a dog park. Serendipity!
Since that day, the combined efforts of committee volunteers, financial support from generous donors, hands-on maintenance of the beautiful park with its shade trees and lots of room to run, have earned the praise of both regular visitors – some of whom are there every day – and visitors from far away who have found the park with an app on their cellphones. The consensus: this is one of the most beautiful dog parks we’ve ever seen.
Now I’m back on the board as the Shelburne Village Dog Park faces a challenge and the Dog Park Committee is committed to answering the question: What next? We encourage our community to keep in touch by watching our Facebook page, attending our monthly meetings and sharing their ideas.
