Shelburne Cemetery Commission has rescheduled a presentation from an expert on green burials.
The public is invited on Sept. 20 to hear from Michelle Acciavatti, an end-of-life specialist based in Montpelier and proponent of green burials. She is known for her compassionate end-of-life advocacy work, said cemetery commission member Jennifer Martin Brown.
Acciavatti will offer an introduction to the concept that refers to burials done in an environmentally responsible manner that avoids common practices that use chemicals and permanent structures such as vaults.
The commission would like to learn more about the practice and get public input on whether to consider allowing for green burials in town cemeteries, Brown said.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 in the activity room on the ground floor of the town offices.
