Barre racer Jason Corliss (No. 66 front) edged out Hinesburg’s Bobby Therrien (No. 5 back) in the final corner of the final lap of Sunday’s 56th Vermont Milk Bowl at Thunder Road Speedbowl. The pair sat tied in the 5th and 6th spots going into the third and final 50-lap segment, with Therrien in 5th. A front-stretch crash on lap 30 claimed Cody Blake of Barre and Shelburne’s Trampas Demers. In the final lap, Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown suddenly shut down in turn 2. Edging around Hebert, Therrien drifted up the track slightly, giving Corliss an opening to dive low coming out in front after turn 4 to the checkered flag. The move gave Corliss the better segment finish and the overall win to become just the sixth driver to log back-to-back Milk Bowl wins. Therrien finished second place overall; Demers finished seventh; Charlotte’s Josh Masterson took ninth place. The race capped off the 2018 Thunder Road racing season. The annual Banquet of Champions is Nov. 3 at the Barre Elks Club.
