Shelburne Community School needs mentors

Shelburne Community School is recruiting mentors for both of its mentoring programs.

Everybody Wins! is a statewide literacy mentoring program that matches adults with students in grades 2-4. Pairs meet Tuesday or Wednesday midday over lunch for reading and fun.

Connecting Youth is a district-wide mentoring program that matches adults with students in grades 5-8 for the school year. Pairs meet at school during the day for one hour, at a time that works around the mentor’s and student’s schedules. The goal of CY mentoring is for each adolescent to develop a strong healthy relationship with an adult.

Both programs provide training, ongoing support, and all the materials needed for a friendship to develop. The commitment is for one school year.

“This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity to come into the school, be engaged with our community, and truly make a difference in the life of one great kid,” said Alice Brown, who coordinates the CY program.

Adults interested in volunteering should contact Brown at or Diane Tanis, with the Everybody Wins! program at
