Food shelf needs turkey donations

The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf needs turkeys and dinner fixings for Thanksgiving and they have donors planning to match the first 250 turkeys donated.

In an announcement Tuesday, the food shelf said that community members Chip and Mary Hart have pledged to contribute up to 250 turkeys to help the food shelf reach its goal of 3,500 birds.

Thanksgiving fixings such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, corn and green beans are also needed.

Donors may drop off turkeys and other food items at 228 North Winooski Ave. in Burlington.

Donation drop-off hours are: Nov. 15-16 and 19-20, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Nov. 17-18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Nov. 21, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The food shelf will distribute turkeys through Wednesday, Nov. 21.

The food shelf also will host a Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.
