Deadline is Jan. 28 for candidates to file petitions for Town Meeting Day election

Petitions are now available for candidates interested in running for local office in the March Town Meeting Day elections.

Candidates can get blank petitions online or at the town clerk’s office and fill out a form to indicate how they would like to be listed on the ballot.

Candidates must have at least 30 registered Shelburne voters sign their petition. A voter may sign just one petition per office. For offices with more than one seat to fill, a voter may sign as many petitions as there are offices to be filled.

The deadline to return signed petitions is Jan. 28 and Town Meeting Day is March 5.

Incumbents are noted below, however they also need to submit petitions by Jan. 28 if they plan to run for re-election.

Town Clerk Diana Vachon said the offices to be filled March 5 are:

  • Town Moderator, one-year term, currently held by Thomas A. Little.
  • Selectboard, two-year term, currently held by Jaimesen Heins.
  • Selectboard, three-year term, currently held by Josh Dein.
  • Champlain Valley School District Director, three-year term, currently held by Russell Caffry.
