News from Pierson Library

The lights are on as work continues on the Pierson Library project. The complete first floor was poured and smoothed last week, and contractors worked Friday night doing saw cuts in the slab for stress relief.

Congratulations to the newest cardholders of the Pierson Library: Graham Dibble; Alex Haines (age 5); Ella Twiggs; Esme Olsen (age 7); Saffron Chang (age 9); and Hugo Chang (age 8).  We hope all these children enjoy a lifetime of reading and learning at the library!

Did you know that Pierson Library circulates a variety of passes to local museums and natural sites?  With these passes you receive discounted admission (sometimes, free admission) to the Shelburne Museum, ECHO Aquarium, Vermont State Parks and more! We are currently looking at the mix of passes offered and are offering a short survey at the library regarding what passes patrons might like that we don’t currently offer. Come fill out a survey or send your suggestions to kunrath@shelburnevt.org for consideration.

Construction update

The new building is now completely enclosed, allowing interior work to proceed. The pouring of the concrete floors has begun and should be finished very soon. The first layer of sheathing of the building has been completed, to be followed by two layers of insulation, with the goal of installing the final layer of cladding in mid-March.

The components of the new heating and cooling system are beginning to arrive and are being installed in the reworked (and dry!) mechanical room in Town Hall.

The Lake Champlain Waldorf School’s upper level architecture class took a tour of the job site this month, asked wonderful questions, and provided great feedback to the design team regarding final finishes and furnishings for young adult areas. Many thanks to them and Ms. Sonn for their input and interest.
