Robert Macy Finn passed away July 12, just 10 days short of his 94th birthday.
Born to Kathleen Macy and James A. Finn in New York City, he grew up in Ardsley-on-Hudson and came of age as a decorated infantryman in Europe during WWII.
In 1950, he married Anne Brine of Boston. Residing in Irvington, N.Y., and Sharon, Conn., they joyfully raised eight children over their 53 years together. As a senior executive of Hilti Fastening Systems, he led them to record sales growth and industry dominance.
After Anne’s passing in 2003, in 2007 he married Pauline “Polly” Winans of Bedford, N.Y., where they enjoyed 12 delightful years together.
Widely known for his boundless energy, charm, intelligence and wit, Bob was a voracious reader, accomplished sailor, golfer, bridge and tennis player, at his happiest splitting firewood and entertaining his children, 19 grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
Having spent much time in Vermont with his son and family, he enjoyed, in particular, Christmas holidays in Shelburne where he was a regular at St Catherine’s Church where he will be remembered at 5:15 p.m. mass on Saturday, Dec. 28.
