Allergies in dogs

Just as allergies have become more common in children these days compared to several generations ago, veterinarians are seeing far more allergies in pets too. It is difficult to explain this phenomenon, theories range from alterations in the content of pet foods to the use of modern day household cleaning products or simply genetic evolution. The dog or cat that exhibits itchiness is often first thought by their owners to have a flea problem. According to Dr. Marina Tal of VCA Brown Animal Hospital on Williston Road in South Burlington,"This has been the worst flea year I've seen in my ten years of practice."

 

National Pet Week celebration on Saturday, May 21 at Pet Food Warehouse

Pet Food Warehouse (PFW) knows how to throw a party. In honor of National Pet Week (May 14-22) they are offering 25 percent off pet accessories, 10 percent off crates and cages and 10 percent off raw, frozen, and freeze-dried foods.

According to Valerie Nikel of PFW, "this is our biggest sale of the year. We are planning events at both our stores, featuring local rescue groups, vendors, bake sale/hot dogs, artists, and games. We are also going to do a drawing for a free one-year supply of Pronature Holistic Pet Food. This is intended to be a fun event to celebrate our customers, their pets, and their families!".

 

Laugh it up for the Humane Society at Higher Ground

Comedians Chad Smith, Pat Lynch, Colin Ryan, and Tony Bates must really love pets. The team of comedians is donating their jokes for the night of May 5 to support the work of the Humane Society of Chittenden County (HSCC).
