Dr. Richard "Rick" Hovey Davis, 52, of Sioux Falls, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at Dougherty Hospice House after an eight-month battle with brain cancer. Rick was born July 28, 1957 in Evanston, Ill. to Phyllis Jean (Dykhuizen) and Phillip Hovey Davis. In early infancy, Rick moved with his family to Burlington where he grew up. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1975 and the University of Vermont in 1979 with a B.A. in history. Rick graduated from Michigan State University in 1981 with an M.A. in student personnel administration and from the University of South Dakota in 1997 with a Doctorate of Education in education administration. While serving as director of student activities at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D., Rick met Jean Elizabeth Morrow and they were married on June 4, 1994.
