Elsie Mayberry - Shelburne

Elsie Mayberry, 85, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2010 at Shelburne Bay Retirement Community in Shelburne, Vt. She was born Sarah Elizabeth in Chicago, Ill. on Feb. 22, 1925 to the late James and Jean (Armstrong) Harbison of Northern Ireland and later changed her name to Elsie. She grew up in Chicago, where she attended Senn High School, ranking third academically in her senior class. After graduating from high school, she became a highly sought-after secretary. She married the late Leonard A. Mayberry in 1954, and shortly thereafter they moved to Los Angeles, Calif. to raise their family. Elsie lived in Southern California, including the cities of Escondido and Oceanside until 1997, when she moved to Hanover, N.H. to be near her son's family. She settled in Shelburne, Vt. in 2001. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Leonard A. Mayberry. A private graveside service for family and friends will be held in Escondido, Calif. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
