CVU wrestler participates in New Englands
by Rahn Fleming, CVU wrestling coach
Sammy Fortin, (171 lb., sophomore, Hinesburg) qualified for the New England regional tournament by placing third in his weight class at the Vermont State Tourney. His coaches, family, and seven teammates traveled to New Haven, Conn. with him to support him in his effort at the next level.
Fortin faced the best wrestlers from Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. He wrestled twice before being eliminated from the tournament.
Kudos to Steven Rich, a 160 lb. wrestler from Spaulding High School in Barre, Vt. Rich was the only Vermont wrestler to make it to the medal rounds. He took second place in his division. He became, as of that moment, Vermont's sole and Vermont's own!
The coaches are proud of the wrestlers and of the season: many young wrestlers, a strong team spirit, steadfast support from families, and great community support. We look to the future with eager anticipation!
