Ruth Bogorad - Shelburne
Ruth Bogorad and her husband Sam were among the first new residents of Wake Robin in Shelburne. They lived in South Burlington where Sam taught English at UVM for 36 years. Ruth died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at age 88. She is survived by brother Earl of Issue, Md., brother Mark of Chicago, and niece Alexia of Arlington, Mass. Ruth was a native of Duluth, Minn., with a Russian family background. She attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth until she transferred to the School of Medical Technology at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Ill. Her first job took her to New Bedford, Mass., where she met Sam. Ruth's mother had been an avid volunteer in community groups, including the Red Cross. Soon after the Bogorads moved to the Burlington area, Ruth followed in her mother's footsteps and making use of her specialized medical training, became the chief technologist for the Vermont-New Hampshire Red Cross Blood Center. She retired after four years and, as a volunteer, was the first woman to be elected chair of the Chittenden County Chapter of the Red Cross; later she became administrator for the Vermont-New Hampshire Regional Red Cross Blood Services. Ruth also found time to serve on the Executive Committee of Friends of the Lane Series, the Visiting Nurse Association, the Lake Champlain Land Trust and as volunteer for Hospice. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.
