Vermont Brownie Co. delivers sweet check to WHBW
This past Valentine’s Day season, brownie treats ordered through Vermont Brownie Company said much more than "I love you." Between Feb.1-14, the brownie company pledged to donate 10 percent of its proceeds from heart-shaped brownie sales to Women Helping Battered Women (WHBW).
Last week, Shawna Lidsky of Shelburne and Katherine Hayward, owners of Vermont Brownie Company, presented a check for $4,672.25 to WHBW.
"We were actually approached by them, and it’s an organization we feel strongly about supporting. Their theme for this fundraising is healthy relationships, and it centered around Valentine’s Day," said Hayward.
The Vermont Brownie Company was recently in the news for winning the Food Network’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay. "We are delighted with VT Brownie Company’s victory and success," said WHBW’s Interim Executive Director, Jane A. Van Buren "and equally delighted to be the recipient of such a generous contribution!"
Women Helping Battered Women is Vermont’s oldest and longest running domestic violence agency, serving over 5,500 people each year. Their comprehensive services include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, children’s services, community education, legal advocacy, economic justice services, and transitional housing services.
